St. Aloysius College celebra la Giornata della Fondazione
Malta. Lunedì 9 ottobre, il St. Aloysius College ha celebrato la Giornata della Fondazione.
Creare «uomini e donne per gli altri»: il rettore del St. Aloysius College, Jimmy Bartolo, ha preso in prestito le parole di padre Pedro Arrupe SJ per celebrare la Giornata della Fondazione del St. Aloysius College. Fondata 116 anni fa, l’8 ottobre 1907, la scuola mantiene immutata la sua vocazione. «Questo è ciò che aspiriamo a realizzare. Oggi la tendenza sembra essere quella di far andare tutti bene a scuola per poter ottenere, personalmente, lavori migliori, più soldi, prestigio. Questa non è l’etica della nostra scuola. Vogliamo che voi, studenti, siate persone per gli altri», ha detto il rettore.
Durante la Giornata, che ha visto vari momenti, compresa una celebrazione eucaristica, è stato lanciato il tema scelto per quest’anno, “Essere con e per gli altri” e il nuovo logo. Inoltre è stato consegnato il premio “Uomini e donne per gli altri”, il più alto riconoscimento conferito a persone che hanno vissuto, attraverso le loro azioni, l’etica della scuola.
Quest’anno il premio è stato consegnato a Jane Callus, un’ex docente di scienze, biologia e matematica. La motivazione del riconoscimento nell’essere stata pioniera nell’attuazione delle politiche di inclusione al St Aloysius College, e per aver avviato un programma di formazione ignaziana per i membri del personale.
Il premio è stato consegnato alla signora Callus dal rettore Jimmy Bartolo sj e dall’architetto Nicholas Bianchi, del Charles Caruana Memorial Fund.
Lanciato l’anno scorso, alla sua prima edizione il premio è stato consegnato all’avvocata dei diritti umani, Katrine Camilleri, direttrice del JRS Malta.
Durante la messa, una donazione di articoli di cancelleria raccolti dagli studenti è stata consegnata al JRS (Jesuit Refugee Service), di Malta.

On Monday 9 October, St. Aloysius College celebrated Foundation Day.
Creating “men and women for others”: St. Aloysius College Rector Jimmy Bartolo borrowed the words of Father Pedro Arrupe SJ to celebrate St. Aloysius College Foundation Day. Founded 116 years ago, on 8 October 1907, the school maintains its vocation unchanged. “This is what we aspire to achieve. Today, the tendency seems to be for everyone to do well in school so that they can personally get better jobs, more money, prestige. This is not the ethos of our school. We want you, the students, to be people for others,” said the rector.
During the Day, which saw various moments, including a Eucharistic celebration, the theme chosen for this year, ‘Being with and for others’, and the new logo were launched. In addition, the ‘Men and Women for Others’ award was presented, the highest award given to people who have lived the ethos of the school through their actions.
This year the award was presented to Jane Callus, a former science, biology and mathematics teacher. The motivation for the award in being a pioneer in the implementation of inclusion policies at St Aloysius College, and for initiating an Ignatian training programme for staff members.
The award was presented to Mrs Callus by Rector Jimmy Bartolo sj and architect Nicholas Bianchi of the Charles Caruana Memorial Fund.
Launched last year, in its first edition, the award was presented to human rights advocate, Katrine Camilleri, director of JRS Malta.
During the mass, a donation of stationery collected by the students was handed over to JRS (Jesuit Refugee Service), Malta.
